今日文章解讀：
In the torchlight， he caught sight of a figure whom he immediately recognized as Bill Wilkins， our local grocer。
‘Whatever are you doing up here Bill？’ asked the vicar in surprise。
藉著電筒光。他看見一個人，馬上認出那是本地雜貨店主經比爾。威爾金斯。
“你究竟在這上面幹什麼，比爾？”牧師驚訝地問。
（1） in的用法
in用於地點、空間、範圍、方位等，這個大家都清楚。在今天學習的句子中，有兩處使用了in，in the torchlight和in surprise。
①in surprise是in的介詞短語形式，修飾前面的asked。比如：
She looked up in surprise when I called her。 我叫她時，她吃驚地抬起頭來看。
②在表示在某種狀態時，也可以與動詞連用。比如：
look at sb。 in surprise 驚訝地看某人
speak in a loud voice 大聲講話
lie in silence 靜靜地躺著
③介詞in短語表示目的狀語時，可以使用in + 名詞的形式。
come on in welcome of sb。 前來歡迎某人
review the lessons in preparation for the exam 複習功課準備考試
④介詞in短語作插入語用
in a sense 在某種意義上
in fact 事實上
in general 一般來說
in our view 在我們看來
in short 簡單地說

（2） sight的用法
sight讓人熟知的是“視野，情景”等。這裡有一些常用的搭配要學習。
①bear the sight of … 容忍見到……
I cannot bear the sight of the man is stingy。 我不忍心見到的這人很吝嗇。
②dread/hate the sight of 害怕/討厭見到…
③keep sight of … 將…保持在視線之內
Keep out of my sight。 不要出現在我的視線裡。
（3）recognize … as … 認出…是…
在這裡要講的一個概念是短暫時間概念的動詞和延續時間的動詞。recognize作為認識，當見到對方時，認識不認識是一瞬間的事。所以recognize不能與延續時間連用。
I have recognized him for a long time。 （錯誤）
應用改用know來表示認識/知道的一個時間長度。
I have known him for a long time。
